£617 million discretionary top-up fund to help small businesses

This is a game changing announcement that helps businesses, like those in Eastbourne's Enterprise Centre, who missed out on previous grant schemes.

It is a measure I have pushed hard for with ministers because I was acutely aware many smaller businesses in shared spaces with no rateable value, but hard hit by coronavirus had fallen through the cracks.

I am delighted the government has listened and offered this substantial and generous support package, which will allow councils a great deal of discretion on how they use it.

Its implementation will have a marked benefit on Eastbourne and means many businesses will now survive.

I think it would be hard for anyone to suggest this government is not doing all it can across many different sectors to protect and support business, local authorities and workers during this emergency.
